Next Steps

KM @ 2:08 PM

We told the landlord and real estate that we’re moving out. I went down to the real estate office yesterday and talked to one of the guys there about when and what we’ll do in terms of breaking our lease. We decided the best and probably easiest solution was to let the landlord keep our deposit and that way, we’re under no obligation to pay them after we leave. The other option was to get our deposit back but if the landlord was unable to rent it for the same price we are paying, we’d have to pay the difference for the remainder of our lease. That seemed like a bad idea considering the market has dropped a lot.

Today I ordered boxes and had someone come over to see the apt. It’s moving fast and the landlord isn’t going to waste time – there are 2 things that are good about this:

1: Gives Jen and I the kick in the ass we need to really start packing, selling things, and getting ready
2: It ups our excitement levels like 200% about moving to Oregon and totally being in a new city. A city that is new to both of us.

I grew up in NYC and returned here right after college – there was no other city I wanted to live in or try… this place is pretty amazing but also pretty tiring. It’s like always being “on” and that’s why I prefer Brooklyn over Manhattan. I like a dead street, quiet nights with no cars, and being able to sit outside without tons of people or traffic. It’s also not as dirty. Manhattan is just full of black grit.

However, I chatted with a friend today and she said she’d be sad if she was moving from NYC – and I am… but I didn’t think about it really – I am scared – scared that I won’t find a job, that Jen and I will argue a lot because we’re stressed, and scared of just being in a new place. I really liked Portland though and felt like I could easily survive there without much trouble.

Anyway, we’re really going and I’m getting so desperate for a job I’m starting to look at gov’t websites and today even though Homeland Security could be an option!! NOOOOOO!!!!! Perhaps that pt dishwasher position is more suited for me and my Obama-fascist ways. ;)

NYC SHIBA RESCUE

KM @ 8:53 PM

If you live around the tri-state area -

NY, NJ, CT, and beyond and can open your door and heart to a homeless dog, please help the NYC Shiba Rescue.  We are in desperate need of foster homes.

http://nycshibarescue.org/volunteer-or-foster/fostering-a-shiba/

If you can’t foster, but can dedicate a few hours a week to helping us with organizing, intake, or adopting – please do so.

This recession has caused a lot of shelters to close and many of our own volunteers and former fosters have had to stop helping for various reasons. The number of dogs who need homes in increasing at an alarming rate and we are turning away dogs more than we used to who could get a great home.

Seriously, tell your friends, pass or reblog this… all these dogs are awesome, sweet, and with some good owners can be perfect and loving.  They are small dogs – usually around 14 to 25 lbs, have a distinct personality, and are often really funny.
